Open Animal Nutrition Checker
Caveats
- Reference implementation, not a ratified standard. This is a non-normative reference implementation of the computation proposed by Open Animal Nutrition (the Dynamic Decile System, based on template Version 21OCT26b with the changes in docs/changes-from-21OCT26b.md; data version 21OCT26b.10). The verdicts deficient and excess are the provisional steward's proposal, pending ratification by a governance body that has not yet been formed.
- Disclosed interest. The provisional steward sells nutritional supplements and offers diet formulation software that implements this standard (Disclosure of interest: https://github.com/openanimalnutrition/animal-nutrition-ig/blob/main/GOVERNANCE.md). The computation references no product, ingredient, supplement or vendor.
- Not a safety or compliance assessment, and not veterinary advice. Each value entered is compared with the selected requirement's ranges only. This does not show that a diet is adequate, safe, complete and balanced, or compliant with any regulation. Nutrients that are not entered are not checked.
- Some results depend on facts this checker does not take as inputs, for example age, breed, or whether a nutrient is added as an additive. Each nutrient lists these as conditions. Where the Implementation Guide leaves a point open, the verdict is empty and the open point is named.
About
Hosting
Hosting is paid for by DVM Consulting, Inc., the provisional steward
(disclosure of interest).
The site runs on Amazon Lightsail, a service of Amazon Web Services (AWS), in the United
States (region us-east-1).
Privacy
- The site uses no accounts, cookies, scripts or analytics, and loads nothing from other
sites.
- What you enter (the requirement, the nutrient values and the facts about the animal) is
used to compute the result. In normal use the checker keeps no record of it, of an AI
assistant's tool arguments, or of IP addresses: its log holds only its start-up and shutdown
messages and, for a malformed request, a fixed line with no content. The one exception: if
the checker fails unexpectedly, the log holds the error, which may include part of the
request.
- The result page holds your entries in hidden fields, so that "Change the inputs" and
"Download JSON" can send them back to the checker, which returns them without keeping
them.
- Lightsail keeps the checker's log for 3 days, and the server's CPU and memory use for up
to 15 months. It gives the steward no record of requests or IP addresses. AWS handles the
connection data needed to deliver the site, under the
AWS Privacy Notice.
- Through an AI assistant, the assistant's provider calls the checker with the values its
model chose; the checker treats them as any other request. What you type in the assistant is
covered by that provider's terms, not by this site.

keeps your message and address in order to answer you.
